Melvin A. Hoover

Melvin A. Hoover, 87, of Womelsdorf, died in the morning hours Thursday, January 10, 2013, of natural causes in the Phoebe Berks Health Care Center.

He was the husband of Jean L. (Oxenreiter) Hoover, to whom he was married to for 64 years.

Born July 11, 1925, in Womelsdorf, he was the son of the late Verda S. Beshore.

A graduate of Womelsdorf High School, he was also a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army.

Mel was a Medical & Surgical Supply Salesman until his retirement.

He was a member of Zion UCC, Womelsdorf, where he was the Superintendent of the Sunday School, was the past President of Consistory, was named Elder Emeritus, and was a devoted volunteer for many church activities.  Mel was also the past President of the Marion Seniors and was a founding member of the former Womelsdorf Optimist Club.  He was also a member of Williamson Lodge #307, F& AM, Womelsdorf, and the Rajah Shrine.

A devoted family man and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife; his children: Joanne, wife of Keith Baker, Harrisonburg, VA, and Diane Shoaff, Sinking Spring; his sister, Jane Baratucci, Dauphin Co.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

He was predeceased by his sister, Peggy Porter, and a brother Richard C. Snyder.

Mel loved the Phillies, the occasional beer, and a nightly fudgesicle.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 14, 2013, at 1 PM, from Zion United Church of Christ, 12 S. 2nd St., Womelsdorf, PA  19567, with the Rev. William A. Pifer-Foote, officiating.  Burial will follow in Womelsdorf Union Cemetery.  Friends may call Sunday, from 6 – 7:30 PM, at the Hetrick-Mull Funeral Home, Inc., 27 E. High St., Womelsdorf, and Monday, from Noon until time of service at the church.  There will be a Masonic Service Sunday evening at 7:15 PM at the funeral home.
