Beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Robert J. “Bob” Mills, III, 65, of Womelsdorf, passed away in the evening hours of Thursday April 20, 2017, in his residence. He is survived by his loving wife, Emily M. Mills. Born May 28, 1951, in West Reading, he was the son of the late Robert J. Mills, Jr., and Anne M. (nee’ Wenger) Mills, Lehighton. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children: Taylor D. Mills, Laureldale, Hilary A. (Wyndel) Hayes, South Carolina, Daniel G. (Janet) Straub & Benjamin J. Straub, both of Washington, and Amelia A. (Russell, Jr.) Lowe, Womelsdorf; a sister: Marsha Dinatally, Lehighton; and 7 grandchildren. A 1969 graduate of Wyomissing High School, he also attended the Industrial Management Institute. Bob was a tool designer for Dana and TE Connectivity, Mt. Joy. Bob was a skilled design engineer, holding several patents for the machinery he designed and improved. He was passionate about his work, and highly regarded in his field. Bob loved cars, motorcycles, and was a devoted Phillies fan. His most memorable experience was his cross-country road-trip to Sturgis and the Grand Canyon on his Harley Road King with his wife and some of his closest friends. He was eagerly awaiting a lung transplant, with high expectations for renewing his life. Despite his health problems, he remained optimistic and took pleasure in the small things in life: sitting on his back porch on cool, sunny days with his beloved wife and dog, Millie; barbecuing on his Traeger smoker, and enjoying cuisine created by his favorite chef – Emily; and watching the Phillies. He was extremely proud of his children and adored his grandkids. He was grateful for his many loyal friends, and regarded them as family. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Womelsdorf.  He was a life member of the Womelsdorf Volunteer Fire Co., where he was a past trustee and past President; a member of the Max Schaeffer Post 6558 VFW, Womelsdorf; and a member of the Newmanstown Athletic Assn. Services will be held Friday, May 5, 2017, at 6:30 PM, at Zion Lutheran Church, 300 W. High St., Womelsdorf, with the Rev. June E. Bair, officiating.  The family will greet relatives and friends following the service in the social hall of the church.  Burial will be in Womelsdorf Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Bob may be made to www.giftoflifefamilyhouse.org or to the charity of one’s choice.
