Betty Bashore Obituary

Betty Catherine (Hassler) Bashore, 72, of Robesonia, departed from this earth on Thursday, May 27, 2021 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

She was the loving wife of Larry G. Bashore. On August 14, 2021, Betty and her husband would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They have one daughter, Lyndsay Caitlin Bashore, wife of Andrew L. Will, of Skokie, Illinois.

Betty was born on April 24, 1949 in Reading, PA. She was the daughter of the late Richard H. Hassler and Ella S. (Reedy) Hassler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 1 brother in infancy, and 3 brothers William, Richard, and Carl. Survivors include 1 brother, Martin J. (wife Marlene); Joyce Hassler (widow of Richard); Dawn Hassler (widow of Carl); and several nieces and nephews.

Betty graduated from Tulpehocken High School in 1967, where she served as the class treasurer. In her senior year, as a part of a contest sponsored by the Patriotic Sons of America (POSofA), she was the winner of an essay contest which resulted in a trip to New York City; that included her giving that same winning essay at the podium in the United Nations building (an event which she was very proud of achieving).

She was a graduate of The Reading Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1970, and became a Registered Nurse. Betty began her nursing career by working in the Neo-Natal Unit and then for doctors at the Conrad Weiser Medical Group. She then held several management positions at various medical offices, finally working at Respiratory Specialists, as the Office Manager where she retired in 2015.

Betty was a very active member of St. Daniel's Lutheran Church in Robesonia, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Director of the Handbell Choir, member of the Church Choir, Vice President of church council, also a board member of St. Daniel’s Pre-School for over 30 years. She served as a member of the Heidelberg Cemetery Board.  For many years, Betty and Larry were co-chairs of St. Daniel’s Annual Fall Festival (an outreach to the local community), whose proceeds benefit the Pre-School and the youth of the church.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 11:00am in the Sanctuary of St. Daniel’s Lutheran Church, 480 Big Spring Road, Robesonia, PA 19551, with Pastor Robert Kramer officiating. The Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am at the Church.
