Eugene Moyer Obituary

Eugene P. “Mousie” Moyer, 82, of Spring Twp. passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at his home.

He was the loving husband of Karen L. (Davis) Moyer.

Born in Fritztown on February 16, 1939, son of the late Paul J. and Leah A. (Rollman) Moyer, he graduated from ELCO High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army for six and a half years in the 904th Field Artillery Battalion.

Fondly referred to by all as "Mousie", his nickname truly reflected more his stature than the size of his heart. He will forever be remembered as a caring man with a gentle soul who loved life and who spent his helping others.

Following his military service, Mousie worked as a Psychiatric Aide at Wernersville State Hospital for 35 years. He was a life member of the Newmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, serving both as 1st Assistant and Chief during his 30 years of service. He also spent 10 years with the Newmanstown Ambulance Association, was a charter and life member of the Lebanon Co. Fire Fighters Association & Smokies, life member of the Lebanon Co. Fire Chiefs Association, life member of Womelsdorf Fire Co. Social Quarters, and served on the board of the Newmanstown Fire Co. Social Club.

Mousie was an avid golfer who looked forward to his Saturday morning golf outings and annual Myrtle Beach trip with the Schafer Party of Fore. He enjoyed his Wednesday afternoon golf outings with the guys and rarely missed a chance to play. He loved to bowl, bike, fish and spend time at the beach with Karen, family and friends. He was a life member of the Millbach Rod & Gun Club and a member of the Heidelberg Heritage Society. A man of faith, his relationship with his God and the Congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church, Robesonia, was important to him.

In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by a son, Andrew E. Moyer (Roseann); a daughter, Paula A. Moyer; step-sons, Michael C. Davis (Deborah), and Bryan E. Davis; a sister, Susan Tracey; grandchildren, Andrea, Crystal, Noah (Holly), Nathaniel (Madison), and Isaiah. He was predeceased by a sister, Ardell Cooper.

To the doctors and nurses at Tower Health Cardiology who provided excellent medical care to Mousie for almost 33 years which allowed him to live the life he did, we thank you. Special thanks also to Tammy and Kristen from Tower Health at Home Hospice who graciously cared for Mousie the last week.

And to our friends, the family appreciates your relationships, your prayers, and the visits from so many. We know Mousie appreciated every minute spent together and every story told. Every visitor this week remarked on Mousie's kindness, so in lieu of flowers, please honor him with your own act of kindness. Do a good deed, pay something forward, make a donation to your church or charity or cause important to you. A happy life is about giving more than you take.

Friends are welcome to gather Friday evening, July 16, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Cole Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 402 E. Penn Ave., Robesonia.   Please wear your favorite golf attire while attending.
