Mary Diller Baum, 103, passed away on March 26, 2021 in the Health Care Center at Phoebe Berks in Wernersville, PA. Her husband was the Rev. Wallace A.Baum who predeceased her. Born in Reading in 1918 during the Spanish Flu pandemic, Mary was the daughter of Adam and Ethel Mae (Barr) Diller. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Womelsdorf, PA. After graduating from the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music with a bachelor's of music, Mary taught piano for over 50 years, served as organist and choir director at St. Andrew's UCC in Lancaster and Zion UCC in Womelsdorf. She was also music director at Pleasantville UCC in Chalfont, PA and Bethany Children's Home in Womelsdorf. Mary was active in the Heidelberg Association and Penn South East Conference of the United Church of Christ, serving on many committees and was a delegate to General Synod. Mary was a member and Past President of the Woman's Club of Robesonia and Past President of the Musical Art Society of Lancaster. After retiring, Mary served as Co-Coordinator of Meals on Wheels and was a tutor at the Berks County Prison. She also sang with the Reading Choral Society for many years. Mary passed her love of the church, music, reading and travel to her three children. She influenced many lives throughout her time on earth, teaching countless children piano and leading numerous choirs. She continued leading the Lenten Choir at Phoebe Berks up until her 90s. Mary is predeceased by her brothers, Adam Diller of Golden, CO, Dr. Henry Diller of Lancaster and Richard Diller of Lancaster and son David Wallace of Allentown. Surviving are Timothy Lewis of Lititz and a daughter, Rebecca Baum Boone of Harrisburg as well as 5 grandchildren, 5 great granddaughters and 1 great great granddaughter. A celebration of her life will be held at Phoebe Berks when it is safe to do so.
