As the youngest of 10, with Anita's death, I realized "that part of my life is over" now with the all of my siblings deceased. But, no one can take my memories.
I always liked that Anita, after the "mommy" stage, taught her children to call her "mother."
The sisters loved to make fools of ourselves to make the others laugh. Of all the sisters, no one surpassed Anita. She had the best "belly laugh" and sometimes a "roll-on-the-floor belly laugh" that I"ve ever seen.
At one of her birthday parties, she had me climb in a hamper as her assistant, in her magic show. When it was time to climb out, I got stuck. I haven't tried to climb into a hamper since.
For Anita's 80th birthday, the sisters worked hard for her surprise. She had always loved the ducks on the farm. We got her son, Steve" the carpenter, to make 80 small ducks and one big one. The sisters painted them. When we all arrived back at her house, she was greeted by these ducks in 12 inches of snow on her front lawn.
Anita was a questioner. One of our birthday treats was a horse and buggy ride with an Amish family. The young man brought a bench out and propped in on the open-air buggy. Anita asked, "Aren't you going to nail it down?" Later, on the ride, she asked, "If the horse bolts, will we all fly up in the air?" We did return safely.
I always felt, even into her 90s, Anita had a great memory. Whenever I couldn't recall something from our farm life, that I was writing about,, I called her for the exact information.
Anita, was one of a kind and I had the honor of growing old with her.
Sister, Carole

Anita & I were friends for almost 20 yrs. She was there for me when I needed help. She was genuinely warm, loving, & fun. Anita lived by her Christian faith & the values she grew up with. We spent hours chatting, looking at photos, her garden, & always had some French fries before saying goodbye. I admired how she could laugh about the foibles of growing older & readily adapt to a new lifestyle at Phoebe Village. As I'm sure she did with countless others, she touched my heart. Thanks for the memories, Anita, thanks for enriching my life. Am sure God is saying, " Well done my good & faithful servant".

My Mother's older sister, so plesant, she was one of the "Greatest Generation", folks like her were Pillars of our society. She may be gone from our midst but never forgotten. Her wisdom and grace can be seen within her children and grandchildren today. A living legacy.
She was more than a sister to my Mother, she was her confidant, always there when needed. I will miss my phone calls to her, may she RIP.
